Mitt Romney, apologizing for leading his prep school classmates in an assault on a student they thought was gay. Did we say “apologizing”? Maybe that’s not the right word. (via motherjones)
Yeah, let’s not elect someone who thought it was a great idea to bully someone over perceived sexual orientation and/or hairstyle.

Breaking News of the Day: Obama Backs Gay Marriage: [UPDATED] President Obama has publicly announced his support for gay marriage in an interview today with Robin Roberts. (Watch the video here.)
I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or Marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.
Obama, who is the first U.S. president to openly back gay marriage, had come under fire this week for remaining mum on the subject after Joe Biden and Arne Duncan publicly declared their support. The president’s announcement comes a day after North Carolina voted in favor of a constitutional amendment that bans marriage equality.
Obama’s interview will appear on ABC’s Good Morning America on Thursday. Excerpts will air tonight on ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer.](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3rrnn1KlB1qzpwi0o1_500.jpg)

no one ever thinks they’re ‘against homosexuals’, they just ‘don’t want to see this right now’ or ‘want to point out this ship isn’t canon’ or ‘don’t want to look at it in public’ or ‘don’t want to explain it to their kids’ and what it all adds up to is
“please be invisible, you are not quite human and don’t deserve to be seen.”

Twilight Lovers (1994) by Tina Fiveash
Inspired by ‘Girl’s Own’ annuals and the Australian Women’s Weekly magazine from the 1950s, Stories for Girls is a tongue-in-cheek attempt to recreate missing lesbian photographic history from an era where homosexuality was a criminal offense, and lesbians were forced to remain in the closet and keep their relationships hidden from society.

A very important NY Times editorial.
I just can’t even, this is really upsetting.
President Obama, yelling at Presidential Candidates after they do nothing to stop the booing of gay soldiers.

Taken from the Honest Girl Scouts campaign. For a campaign trying to get people /not/ to buy cookies and /not/ support the GSUSA, this is doing an awful lot to suddenly make me want /to/ support the GSUSA. (and I’m saying this a a former Girl Scout of about 6 years who hasn’t bought cookies in years because they’re too expensive).
I see so much acceptance here, and especially in a time in children’s lives where acceptance is so important, taking that away from them is just cruel.
oh man I really want to buy girl scout cookies now
good i’ll continue to buy girl sout cookies
also ugh at “claims to be catholic” … u g h
CACKLING IRL
thin mints just got even more delicious
Ugh, how dare the Girl Scouts teach young girls to be sexually healthy, strong, supportive, all-inclusive, powerful women? Such a shame our country has come to this.
*buys ALL the Thin Mints*
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^!
I am buying all of the Girl Scout cookies. My girls will be Girl Scouts.
All I see are reasons why the Girl Scouts are kind of awesome.
Also, I want Samoas, stat.

Reasons to say ‘fuck you’ to the Salvation Army.
“The Salvation Army has refused assistance to gay couples unless they break up and “go straight”, Muslim families who refuse to attend “Christian Bible classes”, kids who can’t prove their immigration status, and more.”
Admittedly, i only skimmed the article, but this quote alone should give you a pretty good idea of how awful they are.
EDIT: I also just learned of this:
Of course, the bigotry of the Salvation Army proved to be deadly towards a transgender woman in Austin, Texas just before Christmas in 2008.
Two years ago today trans woman Jennifer Gale was found dead sleeping on an Austin sidewalk outside a homeless shelter run by the Salvation Army.because they refused to take her in.…
Wow.
I want everybody to understand what happened here. They refused to take in a trans woman, and she died as a result. They killed a trans woman. Killed. Because they “disagreed with her lifestyle”.
You wanna know why I can’t just be all “oh well, it’s their opinion, they’re entitled to it” when it comes to bigotry? This. This is fucking why.
Tried to tell a friend about this a couple of years ago and she got genuinely angry with me for “spoiling everything nice”. I haven’t spoiled anything, goddamnit, they’re the ones killing trans women! It would still have happened if you didn’t know about it!
What.
I wish more people knew about this shit.
Holy crap.
What the hell, Salvation Army. What is your PROBLEM?

It’s a time-honored tradition at Navy homecomings – one lucky sailor is chosen to be first off the ship for the long-awaited kiss with a loved one.
Today, for the first time, the happily reunited couple was gay.The dock landing ship Oak Hill has been gone for nearly three months, training with military allies in Central America.
As the homecoming drew near, the crew and ship’s family readiness group sold $1 raffle tickets for the first kiss. Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta bought 50 - which is actually fewer than many people buy, she said, so she was surprised Monday to find out she’d won.
Her girlfriend of two years, Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell, was waiting when she crossed the brow.
They kissed. The crowd cheered. And with that, another vestige of the policy that forced gays to serve in secrecy vanished.
