“…she stopped paying close attention to his words and when at red lights, examined the rain drops spattering on the windshield so intently that she almost stared right through them. Each drop seemed stuck on the glass, until another drop landed on it and they rolled down the window together, ending in a climactic splash.”

I post and reblog: things I think are pretty, things that intrigue me, things I'm a fan of, and things I care about.

Common themes include: books, writing, movies, more books, cozy beds, breakfasts, Doctor Who, Sherlock, feminist issues, and occasional pieces of my life.

Dorm laundry rooms are the worst laundry rooms.

My afternoon/evening (so far) went like this:

  • Wash a load of laundry that includes the clothes I vastly prefer for aerobics. So far, so good.
  • Put that load in the dryer, paying for 90 minutes but intending to take it out at about 70. (It only lets you pay in 30 minute increments, so if you want more than 60, you have to pay for 90. I do this because I dry at the lowest possible temperature, so sometimes it takes a little longer for things to get completely dry.)
  • This would make my clothes done about 10 minutes before I have to leave for aerobics.
  • Go downstairs when it’s been about 70 minutes to find that someone took out my wet clothes before they were done, heaped them on a machine, and put their own clothes in to dry.

  • Get really angry and leave a note expressing that because 1) that’s shitty, wait your turn and don’t assume that your life is so much more important than someone else’s, 2) I had to scrounge up other clothes for aerobics which ended up being a random tshirt (fine), the substandard sports bra (not great, but manageable), and definitely not clean sweatpants (ew and also, I prefer wearing lighter and slightly tighter pants), and 3) there wasn’t enough time for me to wait for any of the dryers so I had to leave my clothes in a wet, wrinkly pile for a couple of hours until I got back from aerobics to put them back in a dryer again.
  • When I did so, I ran into a friend who said that he was probably the one who moved my clothes but that my note had confused him because the machine had read zero. He offered to pay for my second round of drying, but I declined and basically told him not to worry about it because 1) if it said zero, it’s not his fault, and 2) if it said zero, it probably wasn’t actually him, someone else did it before him, or 3) there’s something really messed up with the machines.
  • So my clothes might be kind of wrinkly or musty and I had to pay a ton more and wear clothes I don’t like for aerobics, and all because dorm laundry rooms are the worst laundry rooms.
  • I’m not even gonna touch my iced tea and potato chip issues from lunch, that was just ridiculous.

Today I made almond cranberry biscotti and candy canes dipped in chocolate to give people for Christmas.
And then went to Qdoba with friends, had a dorm holiday party, went to the Hanukkah event to eat delicious latkes and play dreidel, went to a party in the just off-campus apartment of friends, swept by the local Chinese place, and then just got back to my room.
All in all, a rewarding and fun day. :)
