Sherlock re-watch: A Study in Pink
(via fyeahsherlockandjohn)
yes
John is not immune to Sherlock’s smoulder.

Ugh, this moment!
Their faces are so expressive.

I didn’t even need my slash goggles for this show, their intensity was literally shoved in my face by the writers! And it was GLORIOUS!

This exchange. This lovely wonderful exchange. Where to even begin?
I think I love it so much because, even though we don’t fully realise it yet, this is a very out-of-character moment for Sherlock. He’s almost never this vulnerable and unsure of himself, and the fact that he feels secure enough to lower his defenses so much after knowing John for less than a day speaks volumes about their whole relationship. And John proves himself so beautifully worthy of that trust by not sneering at Sherlock like everyone else, but correcting him as gently and discreetly as though Sherlock were an uncertain child rather that a six-foot-something raving egomaniac.
Because John sees what no one else in Sherlock’s life seems to notice: that his question about why Jennifer Wilson would still be upset over her stillborn child was a genuine one. (Lestrade has some idea, I think, judging by his little sideways glance, but for whatever reason doesn’t feel like he’s the person to be instructing Sherlock Holmes in the finer points of social niceties.) That level of emotion is something that Sherlock honestly doesn’t have any understanding of - yet; though he might after the pool incident -and John Watson is not the type of man to make someone else feel small over a genuine handicap: be it physical, mental, emotional, or - in Sherlock’s case - social.
It’s also a bit sad, because I don’t think Sherlock has any other people in his life that could serve this function for him, ie, as his moral and social compass. I think Mycroft might have tried to be that person for him once upon a time, but then whatever happened between them happened, and now Sherlock doesn’t want to let him into his life anymore. And everyone else is an idiot and therefore not in any position to be instructing the great Sherlock Holmes on any subject at all (or so he thinks).
tl;dr - John and Sherlock’s relationship in six words or less. And that is why Moffat is God.
